Discount Codes

Discount codes (coupons) let you offer a percentage or fixed amount off at checkout. Customers enter the code in the cart or side cart before they pay.

Create A Code

  • Go to Avenia Digital Products → Discount Codes.
  • Add a new code.

You will typically set:

Code

The text customers type, such as SUMMER20. Codes are stored in uppercase.

Discount type

Percentage off the cart subtotal, or a fixed amount in your store currency.

Discount value

For example 20 for 20% off, or 10 for 10 currency units off.

Usage limit

How many times the code can be used across all customers. Leave empty for no limit.

Usage Limit Per Customer

How many times each customer can use this code. Leave blank for unlimited. Counted from completed orders tied to that customer (by logged-in account or matching customer email). Guests without a customer record are not limited by this field, use the overall Usage limit if you need a hard cap for everyone. Independent of the overall Usage limit; you can set both (for example 100 total uses and 1 per customer).

Expiration date

Optional. After this date the code stops working.

Minimum order amount

Optional. The cart must reach this amount before the code applies. For free-trial subscriptions, this is checked against the first charge after the trial (not the $0 due today).

Applicable products

Optional. The cart must include at least one of the selected products for the code to apply. If you select none, any cart can use it. The discount amount is still calculated on the full discountable cart total (not only the matching lines).

Subscriptions

Choose whether the code reduces the first payment only, or every renewal. Ignored for one-time products.

When a subscription has a free trial, the discount is applied to the charge that happens when the trial ends (and to renewals when set to All renewals). Cart and checkout billing schedules show those discounted amounts.

How Customers Use A Code

  • Add products to the cart.
  • Open the cart page or side cart drawer.
  • Enter the code and apply it.
  • The discount appears and the total updates.
  • They continue to checkout. The discount is stored on the completed order.

They can remove an applied code before paying without losing their cart items.

Managing Codes

From the Discount Codes screen you can view usage, edit codes, and delete codes. Deleting a code does not change orders that already used it; those orders keep the discount amount they paid.

Tips

  • Use a usage limit of 1 for personal “thank you” coupons.
  • Use Usage Limit Per Customer of 1 for first-purchase or one-time promo codes so the same buyer cannot reuse them.
  • Combine a minimum cart amount with product restrictions for targeted offers.
