Product Pricing

This guide explains how prices work on a product: simple one-time prices, subscription billing, and license quantity tiers. Pricing is edited on each product under the Pricing box.

One-time Products

  • Open the product.
  • In Product Details, set Product Type to One-time Purchase.
  • In Pricing, enter a License Quantity and a Price.

For most digital downloads, quantity 1 and a single price is all you need. Customers see that price on the product page, pay once, and receive the file.

Currency comes from Settings → General (for example USD or EUR). Every product uses the same store currency. You can also choose whether the currency symbol appears on the left ($10) or the right (10$).

Subscription Products

  • Set Product Type to Subscription.
  • In Pricing, each row shows Monthly Price and Yearly Price instead of a single Price field.
  • Enter a monthly price, a yearly price, or both. Leave a field empty if you do not offer that period.
  • Under Subscription options (in Product Details), you can optionally set:
    • Trial period (days) — free access for that many days before the first charge
    • Setup fee — a one-time amount charged with the first billing period

Leave trial and setup fee at 0 (or empty) when you do not need them.

On the product page, customers choose monthly or yearly before adding to cart. If a trial or setup fee is configured, the product page shows a short summary (for example “14-day free trial” or “$25 setup fee”).

Access (downloads and license keys) stays available while the subscription is active, including during a free trial.

Recurring charges are handled by Stripe or PayPal, so those gateways must be connected before you sell subscriptions for real money. See Set Up Stripe and Set Up Paypal for more information.

Trial period and setup fee

Both options apply to the whole product (not per pricing tier).

Trial period (days)
Customers get download and license access immediately but are not charged the recurring price until the trial ends. At checkout, “Due today” is $0 when only a trial applies. Stripe or PayPal still collects a payment method for the first charge after the trial.

Setup fee
A one-time charge on top of the recurring price. Without a trial, it is collected at checkout together with the first subscription payment. With a trial, it is collected when the trial ends, together with the first recurring payment.

Examples:

Monthly priceTrialSetup feeDue today at checkoutFirst charge after trial
$107 days—$0$10/month
$10—$25$35$10/month (renewals)
$107 days$25$0$35, then $10/month

Checkout and the cart show a billing schedule when a trial or setup fee is present so customers see what is due today and what is due later.

License Quantity Tiers

Each pricing row has a License Quantity. Think of it as a package size.

Examples for a plugin you sell:

License quantityPriceMeaning
149Single site
599Up to five sites
0199Unlimited sites

When Enable License Keys is checked on the product, that quantity is also the maximum number of activations for keys sold on that tier. Quantity 0 means unlimited activations.

When license keys are not enabled, quantity is still useful as a simple “plan” selector (Personal / Team / Agency) even if you are only selling a file.

Click Add Pricing Option to add another row. Use Remove on a row you no longer need.

The Pricing box description in the admin reminds you: enter 0 for unlimited sites.

For paid products, the Pricing box also includes a Direct checkout link section once a Checkout Page is selected under Settings → General → Core Pages. You can copy a URL that adds a specific tier (and billing period, for subscriptions) to the cart and opens checkout. See Direct Checkout Links for more details.

Tips For New Store Owners

Start with one simple price. You can add tiers later when you need them.

Use Simulate payments to confirm the product page shows the right amounts and that checkout totals match.

Mixed carts (one-time + subscription): not allowed with Stripe or PayPal. Multiple subscription products in one cart: allowed with Stripe; PayPal checkout in this plugin supports one subscription at a time. See Troubleshooting for any issues you might have.
